Cultural Policy in Tunisia: Compendium Profile
Jan 2017The Tunisian cultural policies survey summary lists the changes and updates taking place in Tunisian cultural policy from early 2015 through late 2016, and how these connect to changes in Tunisian society and politics. The most prominent developments include the government roping the cultural sector into counter-terrorism programs, the cultural sector’s shift away from government work, civic cultural initiatives, and developments in media. The summary also showcases the most prominent questions related faced by cultural policy in Tunisia—and the difficulties faced by the sector as a whole.
Exploratory surveys are a tool used to predict the laws, legislation, and mechanisms which control cultural activity in Tunisia; the survey was undertaken with the Compendium Model, used to study cultural policies worldwide.
Researchers Wafa Bilqasem and Hadia Bilmaqdam prepared the survey in Tunisia in 2009. Researcher Bilal Aboudi updated the survey in 2013 and 2015, and prepared the present summary.
